Bharat Chauhan NEW DELHI, The SADD called upon the Modi government not to ban Kartarpur visits indefinitely because of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Banning Kartarpur visits indefinitely sends out a wrong message to the Sikh community worldwide,” SADD chief Paramjit Singh Sarna said. “While we favour restrictions aimed at containment of the coronavirus spread, we believe singling out Sri Kartarpur Sahib for an indefinite travel ban, as opposed to a temporary one, undoes the historic measure the Modi government took in opening up the pilgrim corridor late last year.”

The SADD president urged the Centre to specify the period for Kartarpur restrictions.

“Like in other cases, the Modi government should announce a set date for the travel ban to Sri Kartarpur Sahib to last, such as up to March 31. The measure should then be reviewed in the light of the coronavirus situation on March 31 without prejudice.”

Sardar Sarna reminded the Centre that a large number Guru Nanak naam lewas might like to pay obeisance at Sri Kartarpur Sahib during the Vaisakhi celebrations due next month.
