Bhawna Gupta New Delhi ,Tagore international school, Vasant vihar, had an insightful session on ‘gender Sensitisation’ on 8th July, 2019 by Ms. Reena Rai, Founder & chairperson, Deepa Ardnareshwar Empowerment Foundation and her rainbow team. The students of classes 10th and 11th felt engrossed into the session that focused on ‘We are your strength.’ The students have been associated with the human’s rights campaign called ‘Breaking Barriers’ since 2013 and invited Ms. Reena Rai to share more insights about the community. She shared her own story of accepting the LGBTQIA+ community and her adopted transgender daughters Amruta Soni (Transgender rights and HIV activist) and Navya Singh(Brand Ambassador; Miss Transqueen India, TV actress and performer) became a huge inspiration to the students.

Both of them have had their share of overwhelming and challenging phases in life where they weren’t accepted by near and dear ones way back in 2005. Mr Akassh K Aggarwal(Celebrity Accessories designer), another proud member of the community shared his life story of how his parents supported him to accept his identity with pride. Arpit Bhalla(Gender & Sexuality Rights activist, Counselor) hold few activities for kids which will help them to accept themselves and shared many key points with the students that will help them forge ahead in the campaign with ‘support groups’ for the community members. These support groups will act as a safe space for the community members (especially school and college students) to open up and share any issues they face. This is a proposed plan of action by the school’s campaign this year.
Ms. Reena Rai has been very instrumental in organising the first transgender beauty pageant in the country Miss Trans Queen India. They are representing India on the international level this year again with it’s season 3. The students had a very insightful session as they were able to understand what and how much goes behind making a positive change and to create a movement. Together, we strive to achieve more they said. In the end one student came out to the speakers and they recieved enough support making the session worthy.
